Salad Galore at Fish & Co Tampines

Salad is one of the best kinds of food in the world, at least that’s what I believe in. Tampines is one of the many places in Singapore that houses Singapore best restaurant. Italian restaurants Singapore line up in this district, serving different kinds of Singapore Italian food such as vegetarian pizza and pasta. What I am trying to say here is that, in this country, you’ll never run out of food choices.

Aside from all the aforementioned mouth-watering delis, salad bars thrive abundantly in this place as well. One of the best place to check out for garden-fresh salads is Fish & Co.

Fish & Co specializes in fish cuisines, hence the name. but you should not be fooled because they also serve Fish&Chips (it’s their specialty), Pasta, Baked Rice, and Fish Pizza. Oh, before I forgot, their Starters are truly a must-try!

Here are their Salad selections, fresh from their website:

· Mushroom Salad

· Mesclun mix tossed with tangy balsamic vinaigrette dressings topped with sautéed shiitake mushroom and cherry tomatoes.
· Garden Salad

· Mesclun mix tossed with sweet teriyaki balsamic vinaigrette dressing and served with cherry tomatoes and Japanese cucumber. Topped with fried garlic and anchovies and garnished with Japanese mayonnaise.

· Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken

· Tender peri-peri chicken grilled to a light golden, served on a bed of romaine lettuce and homemade croutons.
· Soba and Shrimp Salad

KFC Tampines – Going Back to Basics

After that MOS Burger entry, I decided to get back to basics. By the word “basics”, I mean my all-time favorite chain store in the world – KFC.

I dunno exactly why but KFC has been my favorite since my late childhood days. I guess maybe it’s because I’m used to seeing their “Finger Lickin’ Good” commercial. Or maybe because my dad used to take me to that place, I associated it with happy times.

Maybe the reason why I adore KFC was because I love chicken.

Kentucky Fried Chicken or the KFC, started out in the 1930s, which is then known as The Sanders Court & Café. Colonel Harland Sanders, together Peter Harman, established the first ever KFC branch in 1952. Since then it became a hit to its American consumers, which was later on expanded, making KFC one of the world’s leading chicken restaurant chains. And probably, Singapore best restaurant as well.

Their signature KFC Chicken never ceases to satisfy me. The Original Recipe variant that is coated with herbs and spices – crispy on the outside but tender and juicy inside. Just the way my chicken should be.

In time, KFC has evolved into a full-service restaurant that serves different meals, particularly fit for those with on-the-go lifestyles. They also have Combo Meals and not so recently, the Students Specials. Great value for your money, indeed.

Come to KFC and see what I’ve been talking about.

Best Burgers 101 - Carl’s Jr. Tampines

It’s gonna get messy.

See, that’s what I’m talking about!

I love messy food, you know. But I mean not the DIRTY ones, nor the FILTHY. By the word messy, I mean it will be a bit messy to eat the stuff because all you want to do is gobble up, munch on, and set the manners aside!

Yeah, that’s my kind of thing!

Excuse me for being sorta rude though. But I think what’s really important in eating is to just indulge, let go of your inhibitions! Eat with gusto as if there is no tomorrow!

Lemme share with you my recent “pig out” experience at Carl’s Jr.

It happened last November 30. My friends and I just got out of the office. With nothing left to do for the night, we decided to eat out. We voted which Tampines restaurants we should check out. Carls’ Jr. won by a landslide.

We got there at about 6:00 o’clock. The place is now starting to get crowded. But anyhow, we secured our seats just a few tables away from the counter.

Check out their in-house specialty: the Charbroiled Beef Burgers.

MOS Burger Tampines

Fast food chains is one of the most visited restaurants not only here in Singapore, but also in other cities around the globe. The idea that make these restaurants click is that their food is easy to prepare, you can carry them everywhere, eat them anytime, and pay cheaply for a very feeling meal. That’s very practical, I must say.

Burger chains, just like other fast food restaurants, are some of the best places to eat in Singapore. There are quite a number of burger restaurants here in the metro, ranging from kiosks to savvy restaurants. You name it, Singapore has it.

MOS Burger

I chose MOS Burger to write on, as per suggested by my officemates. And I have learned something about the restaurant that is noteworthy to share.

MOS Burger is inspired by three earthly symbols: M is for mountains, O is for ocean, and S is for sun. I find this idea cute.

Mr. Sakurada, the genius behind this burger chain, said that this restaurant is a product of his dream – a dream that was motivated by his previous job at Tommy’s, another burger chain in the US. When he came back to his hometown in Tokyo, he opened his first MOS Burger in 1972. Since then, the company grew and the stores reached different shores like Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, and of course, Singapore.

MOS Burger is not just about burgers. They also serve breakfast, soups, desserts, and drinks, as well as side treats. What made MOS Burger a standout is that they serve their burgers fresh, and with a Japanese twist. Well, that sounds really yummy!

Oh, for the Love of Tea!

Today, I decided to go for something out of the ordinary. By that I mean I will divert from my usual Tampines restaurants hunt – instead of looking for establishments that offer full-course meals, I think I would like to settle for coffee or tea instead. With a couple slices of bread or some cakes to go with it, of course.

I recently tried Joan Bowen Café, and I must say their Twinings Tea is lovely. It’s a shame they don’t have any branch here in Tampines.

But then I believe there are other café nearby that offers equally lovely coffee and tea. I think I will choose Starbucks. Again, that is. For the nth time.

Everybody knows Starbucks, as the authority for making great tasting coffee. They’ve got several branches here in the metro, and are considered one of the best places to eat in Singapore.

The Experience

Since my taste buds are on the lie-low mood, I would rather have tea for today.

Starbucks is not just famous for coffee, but for other delis and tea as well. Starbucks uses Tazo Teas, their official tea manufacturer. Here are their selections of Full Leaf Tea:

· English Breakfast Tea Latte

· Tazo® Earl Grey Tea Latte

· Tazo® Green Tea Latte

· Tazo® Chai Tea Latte

· English Breakfast Tea

· Tazo® Earl Grey Brewed Tea

· Tazo® Full Leaf Chai Tea

· Tazo® China Green Tips Brewed Tea

· Tazo® Jasmine Orange Tea

· Spearmint Green Tea

· Chamomile Blend Tea

· Mint Blend Tea

I chose the Mint Blend Tea, one of my all-time favorite. This time I chose Chicken Ham & Emmental Cheese to go with my tea. For a change.

Who Wants Sushi?

I do! Yes, I do.

Sushi is one of my all-time favorite foods, at least for the Japanese cuisine of course. My taste buds are quite extensive, so to speak, and I really want to try different kinds of food if the situation allows it. See, I don’t really know how to cook, and the usual Tampines restaurants are becoming more mundane this days. With this happening, I vowed to see some other places to eat in Singapore to satisfy my cravings.

Japanese restaurants are some of the best-loved eating spots here in Tampines. Although I live within this area, I never actually had the chance to eat in one. But I guess tonight is my lucky night because a friend of mine asked me out to dine at Sakae Sushi.

The Experience

My friend and I were lucky enough to get a seat before the crowd arrives, it’s just half past six when we took our seats. We ordered straight away for sushi – I ordered Imo Imo and their Karafuru. I also tried their Omu Rice, which is really, really good! The teriyaki sauce is just so heavenly.

My friend had Unagi Horenso Tamagoyaki and asked, “how come river eel tastes this good?” I laughed.

It’s like we aren’t satisfied yet, we ordered another Sakae for two.

The dinner was satisfying, we are literally filled to the brim! J

Seoul Garden – The Food for the Soul

Seoul food for the soul - intriguing, I must admit. This is the tagline of the Korean restaurant called “Seoul Garden.” I haven’t tried Korean food before but hey, their menu looks delicious!

I heard about Seoul Garden years ago, during my trip to the Philippines. My uncle is a Korean food fan and most of the time, brags about how great those stuff tasted. Apparently, I never had that chance to dine with him, it’s just a short visit, and there are lots to do. It’s a shame, really.

However, the rare opportune was given by this Korean officemate of mine. He asked the whole team for lunch to celebrate his birthday. Korean restaurant, it is!

So on a bright and sunny Wednesday, we head on to Seoul Garden in Tampines Mall, just a few blocks away from the office.

The casual dining ambience is just perfect, however, the place is a bit small. But I must say that the food is A-ok and the price, even better!

Here’s what I got:
·         Deep-Fried Assorted Mushroom - $3.90++
·         Bulggogi Beef Bibim Bap - $9.90++
·         Korean Pan-fried Fish Fillet - $6.90++
·         Free flow of Cold Cinnamon Tea - $3.00++

My chums ordered some other delis, like the Wagyu Beef, Sakura Chicken Skewers, and Tuna Fillet Cubes. We also tried their Seafood Hot Pot, which is equally satisfying like all the rest!

I never thought Korean food tasted this good! Not bad for a first time.
